ah, relationships. they can be great, they can be bad. they can be perfect, they can have problems.
i had to end a very important relationship recently.
my relationship with my hair girl.
honestly, it was partly my fault. i had been seeing someone else back home, and when i called her to schedule an appointment, she had some difficulty remembering who i was. you see, we'd had a bit of a problem with communication in the past - i would say "trim" and she would hear "cut off 3 inches and put my layers in an authentic 1950s sandra dee flip, please." but between her haircutting disasters and my wandering eye, i was ready to put the past behind us.
ok, so i was desperate.
i made an appointment for wednesday of the next week and began printing page after page of acceptable hair creations off the internet, lest i have difficulty expressing my distaste for haircuts of decades past. when i arrived at the salon wednesday morning, i carried a stack of pretty hair pictures. i was prepared for her worst.
i was not prepared, however, for the door to be locked. according to a sign on the door, she would be unable to make her appointments that day.
she didn't even call. she just left a note.
i was furious, but i decided to give her one more chance. i pulled my hair into a ponytail once again and headed back to school to wait for the rescheduling call her note promised.
and i did get that call. at 8:00 am the next morning. and that, my friends, is where i draw the line in any relationship. kristin is available for your calls daily after 9:00 am. NO. EARLIER. i did my best to be friendly, mumbling into the phone and my pillow, but i think she got the message. it was over for good this time. no turning back.
breaking up is hard to do. but it is even harder to find a new hair girl in norman, oklahoma. luckily, i remembered thatone of my favorite shoe store customers also cut hair at a salon near my store. i arrived for my appointment feeling a little nervous, still a bit disillusioned from my bad experiences with the ex hair girl. i settled into the chair and we began chatting. before her scissors touched my hair, she asked me:
"would you like something to drink? coke, sprite? maybe a.. diet coke?"
i am in love. <3
and my hair, thankfully, is in the right decade this time.
