with the internet down at the sorority house so often lately, i was forced to explore a building which, until now, had escaped meaning in my college career.

the library.

oh, i've been to the library before. i've been to the coffee shop in the bottom of the library. i've walked through the library, around the library, by the library. i've sat in the shade of the library. i've commented on the architectural beauty of the library. but as far as actually going to the library for educational purposes, in my three years at the university of oklahoma it has never happened. once.

but with the internet down for days on end, my desperation forced me to exploit the library for its free internet access. and while i was there, i noticed a few things.

1. the library is quiet.
2. the sorority is not quiet.
3. the library is quieter than the sorority.
4. i could get some homework done here.

after that, i was hooked. i decided that the library would be the key to a 4.0 semester. last week, i set out to write my very first paper for everyone's favorite happy, upbeat class: weapons of mass destruction. i found a nice table in the main stretch of the library, the part i had been familiar with before as it's often used as a strategic way to avoid walking outside and around the building. i set up my books and papers and started to work. and 10 seconds later, i found myself people watching. which i unwillingly did for about half an hour.

"germs. biological warfare. nice ipod! i wish i had an ipod. i would get an ipod mini i think. maybe a pink one. no, silver. pink has limited wearability. plus like, it'll go out of style next season. ok germs. oh my gosh! MIKE HOW ARE YOU!!! (insert 10 minute conversation.) ok germs. i wonder why she is wearing heels on campus at 10 am. she probably has some kind of seminar.. thing. i like those heels. i wonder where she got them. i wonder if i will ever finish this paper. i wonder if i will ever start this paper."

i got up, made a full 180 degree turn, and sat down. facing books. and one hour and thirty minutes later, i had a beautiful five page paper. and then i typed it. and then i stapled it. and then i went downstairs to the coffee shop and celebrated my academic victory with a coffee and the school paper in a big, comfy chair.

and then i fell in love with the library. <3
