why wipe flour-caked hands on a towel when you have your jeans instead!ok, so i'll be the first to admit it. my domestic skills are limited. besides my basic mastery of the vacuum cleaner, my troubles with laundry are legendary and i am mystified by the vast array of deadly smelling bathroom cleansers. so it probably wouldn't surprise you that my housework handicap also applies to the kitchen. i make toast, i make bacon, i make pop tarts. and about once a year, i make very excellent chocolate chip cookies.

for the past several years, my christmas eves have been spent making the world's oklahoma's madpony's greatest ever chocolate chip cookies, which are then boxed up and presented to my two favorite uncles on christmas day. they are highly anticipated and highly sought after, which led me to believe that i was TRULY a master of dessert creation. if i could create chocolate chip cookies which made grown men/uncles beg, surely i could conquer anything. right?

so this semester, i set out to make snickerdoodles at the home of tim, conner, and matt. with the recipe before me, i carefully measured out each ingredient and stuck the perfect little balls of dough in the oven with complete satisfaction. a satisfaction that lasted exactly 10 minutes and 15 seconds, when my cookies emerged from the oven as little round disks of death.

those cookies sat in the kitchen all evening, the boys eyeing them suspiciously after conner nearly lost a tooth to his first bite. they gathered dust for the next couple of weeks until the boys decided to test their capabilities. after throwing several of them into the street, the guys informed me that not only did my cookies sustain massive impact at high velocities, they would also likely be preserved fossil-style in their front yard until the end of time. thanks guys.

so i'm back to simply chocolate chip. e-mail me for the recipe if you find yourself craving a little extra holiday sweetness. after all, if i can successfully make them, i guarantee that you can also.
