ask me any other time but now, and i would tell you that winter is my favorite season. i'd probably go on and on about how beautiful snow is, how i adore christmas and my december birthday, how i love getting all bundled up in winter gear to brave the cold, chestnuts roasting on an open fire, blah blah.
you see, i like to hold on to this really romanticized view of winter and its beauty, especially in the hundred degree weather of july and august. so naturally, i was pretty excited to hear rumors that we might experience our first snow of the year this week. i was even thrilled to spy a thin sheet of white forming on the ground outside my window this morning.
my first sign should have been shelby, who came stumbling in our room at 9:30 soaked from head to toe and glowing pink from the freezing wind. she even tried to warn me, after peeling off her 15 drenched layers of clothing and before collapsing face down in bed under all available blankets, with her blank gaze of resignation and mutterings of "i have never been this cold in my life." but no. i still bundled up, eagerly anticipating the walk to class and being sprinkled with beautiful, soft snowflakes.
it wasn't until 10 minutes into my walk to spanish that i remembered that snow is not the beautiful blanket of white all those sentimental, hokey christmas carols celebrate. each little frosty flake is a demon from hell designed to penetrate every bit of warm clothing that i own to form pools of freezing water on my skin and make me miserable for not only the walk to class, but the hour and forty-five minutes i must endure being lectured as a human popsicle.
laugh all you want, northerners. you hard, calloused people of the cold. we of oklahoma are wussies when it comes to bad weather of the freezing kind.
even though it does look *so pretty* from the warmth of my bed.
i imagine it will once again seem less attractive when i'm scraping it off the windshield of my car.
anyway!
thank you so much to all the new people who've linked us. we haven't forgotten about you -- the link box will be updated once i get finals out of the way.
i'm off to work in a couple of hours! the results of Pick a Shoe 2002, which i know you have all been eagerly anticipating, will be posted tonight.
